SuperFoodz # 11- Blueberries

Blueberries are small, blue, and are carried in almost every grocery store in America. Not only that, but they are also one of the healthiest foods in the world! Rated the number 1 highest ranking in antioxidants by the US Department of Agriculture’s Human Nutrition lab, these tiny little berries can do some serious damage. They fight against diarrhea with a chemical called anthocyanin and were used as a relaxant during child birth in the early years of America.

The antioxidants in blueberries are twice as much as spinach and three times as much as oranges. These powerful little guys can get rid of free radical cells that happen with aging as well such as acne, wrinkles, and even cancers! And with a cup of raw ones only being 84 calories, these things are not half bad when it comes to weight loss.

When I think blueberries, I think breakfast. In Oatmeal, yogurt, pancakes, and muffins. Mmmn But the better the concentrated, the more of that super power you get from the little guys. And what better way to concentrate a fruit than into this super antioxidant fighting smoothie?

Blue Monster Smoothie

¼ c. soy milk
¼ c. green tea
¼ c. spinach

-Put ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

Not only does this smoothie have the antioxidants of blueberries, but it also has green tea which is another among the list of most powerful foods. Whether it is summer, fall, winter, or spring, this smoothie is a great quick breakfast any time of the year!

  1. This is a great and easy way to get antioxidants in the body and it was good too!!! Antioxidants have tons of benefits for the body and most people think that they are going to taste bad but i personally love blueberries. That you for the great recipe.

    1. that is very true. Most people think that antioxidants can only been found in packaged foods labeled “w/ antioxidants” or pills. But the truth is, the best sources are in just about every grocery store i know of and are easily accessible.

    2. I love how they also turn everything blue in smoothies. Visible antioxidants at work i guess!
